Petromax has given a modern twist to the age-old tradition of producing charcoal in an oven. In the stainless steel charcoal burner, you make your own charcoal for campfire cooking. This does not require an oven, but the operation is the same: low-oxygen combustion, also called pyrolysis. You can start making your own charcoal while cooking a dish in your Dutch Oven over the campfire, because the charcoal burner is placed directly in the fire. You fill the container with wood. Produced this way, hardwood charcoal has the characteristic of having a long glow phase, produces little smoke and burns at high temperatures. The charcoal gives your dishes the typical smoky aroma, while giving you complete control over the origin of the wood and the quality of the charcoal. This is not only sustainable, but also extremely flexible: by selecting the wood, you can later determine your own smoke flavor. For firing charcoal, you can use both logs and twigs, so that the wood can be used to its full potential.

Instructions for use: Making your own charcoal:

With the lid you close the charcoal burner airtight and then within a few hours you can observe the charred emission of yellow and eventually white smoke. Exactly the same thing you would see with a real oven. Then you remove the charcoal burner from the fire and let it cool overnight. The next morning you will have charcoal with a long burn time. You easily clean the charcoal burner from the inside with a mild detergent, water and a cloth.
